MOTS was created for the Premi Ludi, where we won the “Best Fun” award, granted by SocialPoint, as well as the GameBCN prize. This recognition has allowed us to continue its development in collaboration with an external company for an official release on 3cat.
This project stands out as the first game we designed entirely for mobile devices, with a strong focus on accessibility, simplicity, and fun. Given that the theme was the defense of the Catalan language, we aimed to create a game that anyone—regardless of experience, age, or other factors—could easily understand, enjoy, and feel challenged by, encouraging them to keep playing.
After extensive deliberation, we decided to develop a word-forming game where players must arrange letters into specific shapes while navigating certain limitations. Initial prototypes led to iterations in mechanics, as well as adjustments to letter count, positioning, and movement constraints. Once the core gameplay was refined, we focused on creating multiple levels of varying difficulty, carefully designing a scalable experience with a well-balanced learning curve and challenge progression.
Common mechanics found in similar games were also implemented, such as lives, a dictionary system, and other supporting features. However, one of the most remarkable aspects of MOTS was its commitment to accessibility. Special care was taken not only for players with color blindness but also for blind users, integrating a system that allows them to navigate the game by touch-based screen scanning, a feature commonly found in modern mobile devices.
Now that development is progressing in partnership with an external company, I hope the final product stays true to its original vision and reaches an even wider audience worldwide!
