Ares Atlas

About the Project

This is my most recent project to date and the one I feel most proud of. In just eight days, my team and I managed to create our most engaging and mechanically innovative product. Thanks to a highly skilled technical team that brought the mechanics to life and an artist who perfectly matched the project's vision, we crafted a game that exceeded our expectations.

Ares Atlas was the winner of the Best Technology award and received honorable mentions for both Best Game and Best Design. It was a major design challenge, especially when the theme, “Evolution: Trial and Error”, was revealed. We spent over 24 hours brainstorming, conceptualizing, and prototyping before landing on a solid foundation that the entire team believed in.

From there, we developed multiple general levels for playtesting. As the days progressed, we expanded the game with various biomes, a comprehensive tutorial to ensure accessibility for a wide audience, and levels featuring challenging elements that introduced additional layers of complexity.

I am incredibly proud to have conceptualized such an ambitious project in such a short timeframe and to have worked with a talented team that made it possible while staying mindful of our limitations.

Key Design Elements

  • 2D-to-3D transformation: A mechanic that completely changes how the game is played and how players approach each level, despite maintaining the same core objective.
  • Well-structured tutorial: Ensures that every player fully understands the game’s mechanics from the beginning.
  • Layered complexity: The introduction of structures such as scaffolds, tunnels, and floating blocks adds significant depth to the gameplay.
